If you’ve been following the NFL for some time now, you should know the name “Tim Tebow.”
Tebow was a first-round pick for the Denver Broncos back in 2010. While he was a bit of an unconventional quarterback, he managed to get the job done every now and then. Some of his memorable playoff highlights and ‘Tebowmania’ still live on to this day. However, he took some time away from football over the last few years to focus on playing baseball in the New York Mets’ organization.
However, news broke out on Thursday that Tim Tebow requested to work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars in hopes of an NFL return. Instead of playing at his normal quarterback position, Tebow worked out for the Jaguars as a tight end. Some believe it could even extend the 33-year-old’s football career.
Tim Tebow wasn’t the greatest quarterback during his time in the league, so maybe tight end will work out better for him. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a quarterback turn into a pass-catcher before. Taysom Hill was a quarterback coming out of college, but he’s mostly played a tight end/running back-style role with the New Orleans Saints before they put him in at quarterback last season.
With that being said, just because he worked out with the Jaguars doesn’t mean that Tebow is guaranteed to play a game with them. So, what are the odds that he does play an NFL game this season?
Read on to see what Bovada has to say.
Tim Tebow Odds: Will He Play a Game in the 2021 NFL Season?
Odds via Bovada as of Friday, April 30
- Yes (+375)
- No (-650)
At -650, it’s looking like Tim Tebow probably won’t play an NFL game this season.
It’s not to say that it’ll never happen, but people should be realistic about this. He’s been out of the league since 2015 and hasn’t played a regular-season contest since the 2012 season. It’s not like he’s only been gone for a year or two . He’s been playing baseball for the last several years, which is a lot less physically demanding than football. It’s perfectly acceptable if people are concerned as to whether or not he can handle the NFL grind once again.
On the other hand, he’s a professional athlete and could end up shocking the world. Playing tight end could open up a new door for Tim Tebow, especially if it’s with the Jaguars. He already has a connection with their new head coach Urban Meyer. The duo won two college national championships with the University of Florida in the early 2000s and they reportedly live on the same street as each other now.
Perhaps Meyer could spark something in the former quarterback to get him back to playing at the NFL level. The Jaguars also do need a tight end right now. They could wind up picking up one through the 2021 NFL Draft, but that’s not a guarantee. If Tebow can impress the Jaguars coaching staff as a tight end, the job could be as good as his.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this situation turns out. Like him or hate him, you have to admit one thing: Tim Tebow brings eyes to the NFL.
