There’s a lot of golf action scheduled for this week, which includes the 2021 Northern Trust. Previously known as The Barclays until 2017, The Northern Trust will take place at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey from Thursday, August 19 to Sunday, August 22.
BetOnline has released its odds for The Northern Trust and is favoring Jon Rahm to win it all at +1000 odds. Rahm is no stranger when it comes to the tournament, having finished T-6th in the 2020 edition of the event. He also placed third the last time the tournament was held at the Liberty National Golf Club in 2019, so it goes to show that he has experience coming close to winning.
Fortunately for those cheering on Rahm to win this week, he’s been on a roll as of late. He’s placed top-10 in seven of the last 10 events he’s competed in, which includes winning the 2021 U.S. Open back in June and placing third at the Open Championship last month. It won’t be easy to win in Jersey City this week, however, Rahm has proven all year long that he’s one of golf’s best talents and if anyone can win The Northern Trust, it’s him.

Morikawa Looking for the First Time
One of the many golfers’ who has yet to win The Northern Trust is Collin Morikawa, whose odds to walk out of Jersey City victorious sit at +1600. He’s competed in the event twice in the past, however, things didn’t work out in his favor. Morikawa placed 52nd in 2019 and missed the cut after the first two rounds last year. It’s safe to say that he’s overdue for a strong showing.
Fortunately, Morikawa’s momentum this season could help him put on a solid performance at The Northern Trust this week. He’s won two events so far this year, which includes the Open Championship back in July. Most recently, he placed T-26th at the St. Jude Invitational last week, however, he’s shown the ability to bounce back from underwhelming performances throughout the 2021 PGA TOUR. Morikawa is one of the best golfers in the world for a reason and he’ll have to chance to prove it with a win in Jersey City this week.
Dustin Johnson The Northern Trust Odds
When it comes to The Northern Trust, few golfers have as much success as Dustin Johnson. The 37-year-old has won the tournament three times in the past, including when he won last year by an impressive 11 strokes. To put things into perspective, Johnson scored a 67,60, 64 and 63 in each of the four rounds, respectively, which certainly appears to be one of his best scorecards to date.
Johnson enters this week’s tournament with the chance to make history. With a win, he’d tie Vijay Singh as the only other golfer to win The Northern Trust four times. The only issue is that Johnson doesn’t have a ton of momentum as of late. While he’s placed top-10 in two of his last three outings, he hasn’t placed top-5 since he won the 2020 Masters Tournament back in November of last year. Nevertheless, his +1900 odds do rank fourth on BetOnline, so the sportsbook clearly has faith in a strong showing. Only time will tell if Johnson can turn those favorable odds into actual results.
