Professional poker players are known at being experts in the card game as well as charitable to the community. It is not uncommon to see poker pros using their time to raise money for good causes, such as established organizations or individual people. Coming up this week, there is a special event being hosted by Run It Once Poker, the brainchild of poker pro Phil Galfond. The special event kicks off December 19 and already has raised over $22,000!
Double Up for Charity
Titled Double Up for Charity, the special event will see poker pros going head to head to raise money for charity. The team at Run It Once has joined forces with Double Up Drive to host the event. A total of 27 players will compete in a Pro-Am SNG Select event.
Eighteen of the players in the competition are established poker pros. The final nine seats will go to the public. The top five donors at the website of Double Up Drive will automatically receive a seat to compete. The other seats will be given out via random draw. Players who donated anything will have a shot at winning one of the remaining four seats.
The tournament will be streamed on Twitch via the channel of Run It Once. Fans can watch the action unfold by following the channel.
Pros competing in the event include:
- Stephen Chidwick
- Marle Cordeiro
- Daniel Dvoress
- Farah Galfond
- Phil Galfond
- Luc Greenwood
- Chance Kornuth
- Jamie Kersteter

The event will be broken down into sections. There is a Semi 1, Semi 2 and Semi 3. Each semi includes three groups. In each group, there is two pros and one qualifier. Players will compete in Cub3d and have the opportunity to move on in the competition plus win a prize at the table.
The player with the highest balance at the end of the round will move to the second round. In this round, players will be in three player groups again. The event will then switch to Classic SNG shootout. Every group will play one SNG match and the winner moves on to the finals. The three winners then take part in the final and one will be crowned the winner!
Raising Money
Run It Once Poker is doing quite a lot this holiday season to raise money for charity. They are currently offering to match funds from players who compete at the Run It Once tables on December 19. For every player who plays one hand of poker on that day, the site will provide a €10 donation.
Players who cannot play on that day are encouraged to still give. Run It Once Poker has made a donation option available via their website.
Double Up Drive is also ready to give. They have promised to match up to $!0,000 of every donation on a first-come-first serve basis. With this match, the event could raise a lot of money
