RSM Classic Odds Favor Scottie Scheffler Over Simpson, Smith

While the European Tour’s DP World Tour Championship is scheduled for this week, it isn’t the only golf tournament that fans are excited about. The 2021 RSM Classic begins on Thursday, November 18 before concluding on Sunday, November 21. It will be played, once again, on the Seaside and Plantation courses at the Sea Island Golf Club in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

The field is filled with great talent despite a lot of good golfers being overseas in Dubai at the moment. Keeping that in mind, BetOnline has still released its RSM Classic odds and is favoring Scottie Scheffler to win it all at +1200 odds.

Scheffler has competed at the RSM Classic once in his career, placing T-5th when all was said and done back in 2019. Aside from that, he’ll have to bring his current momentum to Saint Simons Island. After winning the Ryder Cup with Team USA, Scheffler failed to make the cut at the Shriners Children’s Open. Fortunately for him, things started improving after that.

Scheffler has finished T-38th, 4th and T-2nd in his subsequent three events, with the most recent out taking place at last week’s Houston Open. With that being said, the 25-year-old still hasn’t won a PGA event in his career despite coming close many times. With a lot of the PGA’s top golfers out of the country for the week, the RSM Classic certainly gives him his best opportunity at victory for the foreseeable future.

Webb Simpson Looking for Revenge

Two years ago, Webb Simpson came pretty close to winning the RSM Classic, placing second after shooting 17-under-par. Unfortunately, he followed that up with a T-37th performance in 2020, leaving him wanting revenge this year. Well, the good news is that Simpson currently owns the second-best odds (+1400) to win the tournament this week.

In total, Simpson has competed at the Sea Island Golf Club nine times in his career. While he’s made the cut in eight of those outings, he’s placed inside of the Top 3 three times, which shows just how close the 36-year-old has come to winning.

It’s also been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the 2022 season for him. He’s finished T-30th, CUT and T-14th in his three performances and needs the type of outing that’ll start a consistent run for him. If he can find whatever it was that led him to his two second-place performances, it could end up being another golf week for Simpson as the RSM Classic.

Cameron Smith RSM Classic Odds

While Cameron Smith has been competing in PGA events since November 2014, he has never participated in the RSM Classic. Obviously, that changes this year — especially with BetOnline projecting a strong showing for him (+1800)

Nevertheless, Smith saw some success on the 2021 PGA TOUR. He finished Top 25 in 14 of his 24 events, with his best performance taking place when he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans back at the end of April. He hasn’t won a tournament since then, however, he did begin the 2022 season with a T-9th and T-15th finish at the CJ Cup and Houston Open, respectively. Those obviously aren’t the best performances, but they do show that Smith has a promising shot at a good finish this week.

Whether he wins the whole RSM Classic or not remains to be seen, but don’t let his making his debut distract from the fact that Smith has proven that he’ll likely be in the thick of things throughout the next few days.
