Soccer superstar Neymar Jr has signed a new deal with online poker room PokerStars. The platform is bringing him back a second time as a brand ambassador. They first worked with Neymar years ago and the partnership ended in 2017. This is believed to be the first time that a brand ambassador was signed again by PokerStars.
Passion in Poker
In a press release, Neymar pointed out that when he is not playing soccer, he is enjoying the game of poker. He likes to compete with his friends and loves the sense of community as well as fun that the game brings. The sports star is excited to start a new chapter with PokerStars and looks forward to creating moments for the community and fans around the world.
Neymar is already seen at the poker tables at PokerStars on a regular basis. He plays under neymar-jr online and is often seen playing in High Roller Club events. He recently took part in the SCOOP series and was able to fare quite well.
Along with playing at PokerStars, Neymar has also logged in at GGPoker from time to time. He took part in the recent WSOP Online and even has a custom avatar to play with.
It is unclear as to what role he will play at the site, but he is sure to have a significant reach for PokerStars. Neymar already has more than 50 million Twitter followers and even more on Instagram, with 143 million people keeping track of his busy life. He has such a large following on Instagram that he is one of the 15 most followed accounts in the world.
A Look Back
When Neymar first signed with PokerStars back in 2015, he was part of the #RaiseIt campaign, which was blasted across social media channels. With the program, Neymar and other Team SportsStars completed trick shots which were featured on social media. Other members of the team included such sports stars at the time like Cristiano Ronaldo.
By 2017, the Team SportStars was no more at PokerStars, so these partnerships dwindled. It looks like PokerStars is looking to recapture something with this new signing, be it more sports fans at their site or just simply adding to its list of new superstars.
The brand signed Kevin Hart and Usain Bolt a few years ago, but has yet to sign any other big names until Neymar this year.
In a company press release, PokerStars revealed it will be the perfect pair with Neymar Jr. The signing is only the start of the journey and more will be revealed in 2021. Global Director of Brand and Creative at PokerStars, Martin Nieri, commented on Neymar, calling him a true global superstar. Nieri said that what underpins the partnership is the soccer star’s genuine love for poker.
Neiri pointed out that the brand is constantly trying new things to bring excitement, energy and entertainment to players. With Neymar, the brand believes they can take poker to the next level for the community.
