Two major poker groups have decided to come together to offer players an exciting series this summer. The World Poker Tour (WPT) and partypoker have joined forces to host the first-ever WPT Main Event Tour. The new online option will offer events via the platform of partypoker beginning in May. The tour will take place from May 10th through the 26th and feature a whopping $15 million in total guaranteed prize money.
Details of the Tour
Little has been revealed about the tour just yet, but according to Pokerfuse, events that are confirmed include a $3,300 tournament with $5 million in guaranteed prize money. The schedule should also include a WPT500 and Deepstacks event, among other formats.
On social media, partner of GVC, Rob Yong, posted a video, announcing that party will be hosting the first WPT online in the history of the World Poker Tour. Exact dates of the tour will be announced at a later date.
Satellites Announced
As with any major online or land-based poker event, partypoker is offering satellites. Players can find satellites listed at party currently, with low to mid-range buy-ins. Players can earn what is called a WPT Passport to semi-finals or finals.
The WPT is offering freerolls for the tour at party, so that players can earn a seat free of charge. On the low end, players can take part in $0.55, $1.10 and $5.50 satellites. The two lowest satellites fit into the round one category while the $5.50 option is a quarter final affair.
Players can also pay $11 to take part in a quarter final round while the semi finals have $55 and $109 buy-ins. Players will be vying for $5,000 packages to the WPT tour online.
This new tour should be quite a hit among players as it will offer a ton of gaming action. It will be running at the same time as the World Series of Poker, so it will be interesting to see how much traffic the new tour generates.
Partypoker is a smart choice for the WPT to be working with for their first-ever online tour as the brand has been in the business for many years. They are one of the oldest still operating today and easily recognized by millions of poker fans. Having launched in 2001, the brand is considered a pioneer in the online poker world.
With less than two months until the WPT Online will launch, it would not be surprising to see with the World Poker Tour or partypoker announce the details of the events in the next few weeks. With satellites already in place, players can begin working on ways to earn a spot into several of the tournaments before they are announced.
Once the schedule is released, we will provide the details so players can begin making arrangements to compete. Because the action is online, it is much more convenient for players as no travel plans will be needed!
