According to a blog post on the Americas Cardroom website, Million Dollar Sundays will become a permanent fixture on the Winning Poker Network´s tournament schedule starting this week. The events will retain their $265.00 buy-in and be supported by an even stronger satellite schedule.
There was great news for US poker players yesterday when it was confirmed Million Dollar Sundays are here to stay. The blog post mentioned above was later followed by a Tweet from the Americas Cardroom Twitter account and the appearance of a revised satellite schedule in the poker client.
The news comes despite recent Million Dollar Sunday events having failed to meet their $1,000,001 guarantees – a factor primarily attributable to the Network cutting the buy-ins from $540 to $265. However, many of the Network´s other feature tournaments continue to thrive – indeed the tournament schedule has just been increased to guarantee more than $6.5 million in prize money every week.
Same Time, Same Place, More Supporting Events
The Million Dollar Sundays will continue to be played at 3:00pm (all times ET) at Americas Cardroom, Black Chip Poker, True Poker and Ya Poker. As usual, there will be five hours of late registration (twenty levels) during which time unlimited re-entries are allowed; and, as usual, players who reach the final table will be able to withdraw their winnings free of charge via a bank wire facility.
What has changed is the variety of ways in which players can qualify for Million Dollar Sundays. There are more satellites and sub-satellites than ever before, plus the number of seats being guaranteed in the Network´s mega-satellites has increased – and the buy-ins for two of the three mega-satellites reduced in order to make them more affordable. The new mega-satellites now run at:
- Fridays @ 7:30pm – This mega-satellite has a buy-in of $16.50 and guarantees a minimum of 25 seats in the Million Dollar Sunday event.
- Saturdays @ 7:30pm – At least 50 players will win seats in the Million Dollar Sunday event in this mega-satellite which also has a buy-in of $16.50.
- Sundays @ 12:00 noon – The mega-satellite to crush them all costs $44.00 to enter and will reward the top 150 players with a seat in the target event.
There is a colossal number of sub-satellites feeding into the mega-satellites starting at Freebuy level. Players who would rather battle their way through smaller fields can take advantage of hyper-turbo sub-satellites starting at $1.05, or qualify directly for the Million Dollar Sunday event via “On Demand” re-buy and add-on satellites starting with buy-ins of $1.10. There is also a six-stage Steps Sit & Go program underway, with Stage 1 buy-ins of $0.28.

From my experience, although the mega-satellites offer more seats for the target event, it is often better to try one of the alternative routes to the Million Dollar Sunday – especially if you qualify via Sunday morning´s mega-satellite and then have to immediately take part in that afternoon´s million dollar guaranteed event. Therefore, I strongly recommend visiting a site on the Winning Poker Network before the weekend in order to qualify for Sunday´s feature while the network is quieter.
