On Sunday, the first two ring events of the World Series of Poker Super Circuit finished up at GGPoker. The series is set to offer a record-breaking $100 million in guaranteed prize money with 18 gold ring events on offer.
Event #1 Details
Ring Event #1 was a COVID Charity event with $1 million in guaranteed prize money. The field saw 1,595 entries with 13 hours of play taking place before online player TheMadQueen earned the first place finish and $269,267 in prize money. The Canadian winner was able to defeat Igutu of India in heads-up play to earn the win.
The event had an entry fee of $1,111 and $111 of that amount was set aside to go towards the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund of the Nevada Community Foundation. Over $175,000 was raised during the event. The money will go towards purchasing supplies for healthcare workers and first responders.
With so many players competing, the prize pool was also increased. Instead of just $1 million in total prizes, the players were competing for just over $1.7 million.
Event #2 Details
Ring Event #2 was a Kick-Off $500k event. The tournament would play out over two days and see JuanMartinDelPotro54 earn the first-place finish, the gold ring and $137,120 in prize money. The event had a very low buy-in of $55 which led to a whopping 28,291 in entries.
The winner was seen towards the end of the day with around 50 players remaining holding one of the larger chip stacks. The player quickly became the chip leader when only three tables remained. From that point on there would be no looking back and JuanMartinDelPotro54 would eventually earn the win after defeating jolen in heads-up play.
On a side note, play in this tournament was delayed for an hour or so after server issues began causing problems. However, the issue was soon resolved and players were back at the felt once again.
