The World Series of Poker continues to be a clear leader when it comes to live poker, and there are a number of events off of the main event. The Tournament of Champions is one of those events, and it will actually be held at a surprising location this year.
The Commerce Casino in Los Angeles is going to host the WSOP Tournament of Champions this season, and it seemed to be an interesting choice. Even though this casino has a ton of history, it has not been known to host major poker events in the past.
All of the tournament of champions action will take place from May 22-24, and it’s only a small part of the WSOP Circuit event. The final WSOP Circuit event of the year is going to run from May 10-24, and the biggest winners will head to Los Angeles for the final few tournaments.
This will actually be the final chance for players to win some money before the real tournament begins as it’s going to be a great year when it comes to the World Series of Poker. It’s going to be a busy few weeks on the WSOP, and many players will be heading to Las Vegas to compete in those tournaments.
There have been some big poker tournaments played at the Commerce Casino in the Las Vegas, but this will be the first time it hosts a massive event.
Details of Tournament of Champions
There won’t be a ton of competitors making there way to the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles as there is some criteria that must be met. This event will only be open to players that have won a ring at a WSOPC event, and it’s going to be a $1 million freeroll event.
Even though this event is open to all of the past champions, not everyone will be looking to make the trip to Los Angeles. Because there were so many tournaments on the WSOPC, some winners are not interested in playing in massive events.
There is also a main event that is open to anyone in Los Angeles, but that tournament is going to come with a buy-in of $1,700 and a prize pool of at least $1 million. World Series of Poker has announced some big prize pools for this event, but those can always increase depending on how many players sign up.
Big Event Coming
While this is going to be a great way to wrap up the WSOPC season, the biggest poker events are coming later on in the year. The entire WSOP schedule has been released, and it’s going to be the biggest event in the history of live poker.
Nearly all of the WSOP action is going to be taking place in Las Vegas, but there will be some satellite events in other parts of the country as well. Not only will this WSOP provide the largest number of poker tournaments, but it will also set a record for cash prizes at this event.
