The PGA Tour is just flying by as the golfing world is set to reach the 2021 U.S. Open this weekend. One of the biggest events in golf, the U.S. Open will be held from Thursday, June 17 to Sunday, June 20 at Torrey Pines Golf Course’s South Course in San Diego, California. This year’s event is the first time it’s being held at this location since Tiger Woods won it for the third time back in 2008.
Considering how last year’s event was pushed back to September due to COVID-19, it’s nice that the 2021 U.S. Open is on time. With that being said, that means that oddsmakers have released PGA odds on who’s being favored to win the championship. BetOnline is currently favoring Jon Rahm at +1000 odds to win this year’s U.S. Open.
The 26-year-old has never won the tournament before, however, he has played well on Torrey Pines’ South Course in the past. Rahm has competed on the course five times in his career, finishing with four top-10 finishes — with one time being when he won the Farmers Insurance Open in 2017. He also hasn’t shot over 72 in any round since 2018, showing that he has gotten into a rhythm whenever he plays at Torrey Pines. Considering how Rahm has 10 top-10 finishes in 17 PGA events this season, look for him to have a good showing at the 2021 U.S. Open.

Three-Way Tie for Second-Best Odds
Unless something changes, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele will enter the U.S. Open being tied for second-best odds at +1600. For Koepka, the U.S Open isn’t anything new to him. He’s a two-time winner already, having won the tournament back-to-back in 2017 and 2018. He was even the runner-up in 2019, which shows that he always seems to step it up when it counts. Koepka has been playing well on the current tour, having finished in 2nd at the PGA Championship back on May 23.
Johnson is another former U.S. Open winner at this week’s event, having won it back in 2016. Unfortunately, he hasn’t played too well on Torrey Pines’ South Course in the past. Having played the course 10 times, Johnson has just one top-10 finish, which came back in 2011. Considering how inconsistent he has been on the current PGA Tour, he may not be the safest bet this week. Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele has never won a major championship in his career. He did finished in 5th at the 2020 U.S. Open, but this is a different course. Fortunately for him, Schauffele did finish in 2nd on the South Course for the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open, so he’s shown that he can be successful. He just needs to do it when the stakes are at their highest.
PGA Odds: Can DeChambeau Go Back-to-Back?
Heading into San Diego this week, Bryson DeChambeau has +1800 odds to win the 2021 U.S. Open. The 27-year-old won the event last year, marking the first major championship victory of his career. Since then, aside from winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational, DeChambeau hasn’t had a lot of success. He has just one top-10 finish in his last six events and had finished in 38th or worse four times in that span. Needless to say, a win this week could turn things around. His history on the South Course doesn’t look much better as DeChambeau has only competed there twice, missing the cut both times. It’s going to take a major performance to convince the doubters why he deserves these odds.
