Saints Acquiring Eli Apple

The New Orleans Saints are acquiring cornerback Eli Apple from the New York Giants. In exchange for Apple, the Giants will receive a fourth-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft, and a seventh-round pick in 2020. Apple was selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He has recorded 23 tackles so far this season, and also has one forced fumble. Apple has just one interception in his first three NFL seasons and was suspended by the New York Giants for the final game of the 2017 season. The Giants have fallen to a 1-6 record this season, tied with the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers for the worst mark in the NFL.

Chad Kelly Arrested For Trespassing

Chad Kelly, the backup quarterback for the Denver Broncos has been arrested and charged with first-degree criminal trespass. Kelly was arrested by the Englewood Police Department after he illegally entered a residence before being chased out by the owner. The police department announced that Kelly was no longer in custody as of Tuesday morning. Kelly was drafted in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. Kelly beat out Paxton Lynch for the backup quarterback role for the Broncos this preseason.

Jets Signing Rishard Matthews

The New York Jets are signing former Tennessee Titans wide receiver, Rishard Matthews according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Matthews, 29, was upset about his playing time with the Titans earlier this season, and forced his way out of town. Matthews caught just three passes for eleven yards this season with the Titans after leading the team in yards and receptions the previous two years. The Jets are without two of their top wide receivers, Terrelle Pryor and Quincy Enunwa, giving Matthews a chance to prove his worth to the team.

Cowboys Acquire Amari Cooper

The Dallas Cowboys have traded for wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Oakland Raiders. The Cowboys will be sending a 2019 first-round pick back to Oakland in exchange for the talented wide receiver. The Raiders will now have three first round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, and head coach Jon Gruden will get to reshape the roster. Dallas has been looking for a number one receiver since choosing to not resign Dez Bryant in the offseason. Cooper had two straight seasons of at least 72 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards, and five touchdowns, but struggled last season and in the early going this year. Cooper is expected to play when the Dallas Cowboys host the Tennessee Titans on November 5.

Marshawn Lynch On IR

The Oakland Raiders announced on Monday that they are placing running back Marshawn Lynch on injured reserve. Lynch is dealing with an injury to his core muscle, and his season and career in the NFL is up in the air. The 32 year old running back was dealing with a groin injury as well that was expected to keep him out of the lineup for at least a month. Lynch was averaging 4.2 yards per carry for the Raiders this season and scored three touchdowns in the team’s first six games. Oakland will now turn to a duo of Doug Martin and Jalen Richard at the running back position for the rest of the season.

Injuries Killing Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins will once again be without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill when they take the field for a week eight battle against the Houston Texans. Tannehill is dealing with an injury to his right throwing shoulder, and Brock Osweiler will make the start for the Dolphins at quarterback. Tannehill got the Dolphins off to a 3-0 start this season, before dropping the final two games that he played. Osweiler has thrown for over 650 yards and six touchdowns in his two starts this season and has gone 1-1. Miami is also expected to be placing wide receiver Albert Wilson on injured reserve after he suffered a hip injury in the week seven loss. Wilson leads the team with 391 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season, and also has seven catches of more than 20 yards this season.
