Joe Biden and his wife might just be settling into the White House after a busy inauguration day, but that doesn’t mean sportsbooks aren’t already taking action on who will win the 2024 presidential election. In fact, the current list of possible candidates includes everyone from Kamala Harris, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Donald Trump Sr. (and Jr.), who are all very polarizing options.
Odds to Win the 2024 Presidential Election
- Kamala Harris +450
- Joe Biden +600
- Donald Trump Sr. +800
- Nikki Haley +1200
- Andrew Yang +1600
- Mike Pence +1600
- Michelle Obama +2000
- Pete Buttigieg +2000
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez +2500
- John Kasich +2500
- Mark Cuban +2500
- Stacey Abrams +2500
- Andrew Cuomo +3000
- Tim Scott +3000
- Ted Cruz +3300
- Michael Bloomberg +3500
- Amy Klobuchar +4000
- Cory Booker +4000
- Donald Trump Jr. +5000
- Kanye West +5000
Looking at the odds, Kamala Harris is the +450 favorite at Bovada, followed by Joe Biden, who is listed at +600. Former president Donald Trump sits at +800, which isn’t bad considering the last few weeks, but could still be a longshot with his Senate trial looming. Those three candidates are followed by Nikki Haley at +1200, Mike Pence at +1600 and many more, making for a very intriguing road to the 2024 election.
Other Notable Candidates Sportsbooks have Given Odds
Going further down the list, and you start to see names like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at +2500, Dwayne, Mark Cuban at +2500, Michelle Obama at +2000 and Kanye West at +5000. Now, these candidates are all long shots to win the presidency in 2024, but one must remember that Donald Trump was also one when he first ran.
Speaking of the former president, his future in politics is going to come down to two factors. The first is whether or not Republicans want to continue embracing Trump after seeing the results of his controversial rhetoric. The second factor will be his impeachment trial in the Senate, which could end up barring him from ever running for public office again.
Even if Trump does survive his trial without being convicted by the former Republican controlled Senate, it remains to be seen if he will be able to raise the kind of money needed to run again. Keep in mind that Trump has been deplatformed, lost his partnership with Deutsche Bank, and is on the verge of countless other legal problems. The PGA has even cancelled multiple tournaments that were scheduled to be held at Trump golf courses.
The Future of the Republican Party
For those reasons listed above (and many more) it may be wise for the Republicans to go with a more respected figure like Nikki Haley, who served as Trump’s former Ambassador to the United Nations from 2018-2019. She eventually resigned from the position in 2019 due to a donor scandal but she is still discussed positively in Republican circles. She could even be a front runner for the nomination based on lack of better options.
Of course, Mike Pence could make a run at the Republican nomination in 2024, but one also must remember that a big portion of Trump’s base no longer supports him. In fact, some even saw him as a traitor for not supporting the campaign to overturn the 2020 election in Trump’s favor, making his chances very slim. He will also likely try to bring family values back to the party, but that’s a hard yarn to spin after his time in the Trump administration.
Why is Kamala Harris the Favorite to Win the 2024 Election?
Given everything discussed, it looks like the White House could stay blue for quite some time. One would think that means Biden is guaranteed to get reelected in 2024, but Bovada lists Harris as the favorite to win. This means oddsmakers are factoring in Biden’s age when setting odds. He could decide not to run in 2024 or may be forced not to run due to pressure or health issues.
According to OddsShark “Harris would be the favorite primarily due to Biden’s age and potentially the 25th Amendment. The former vice-president turned 78 in November and would be 82 by the time the 2024 election comes around. Nobody should want to see Biden have any health issues, but the reality is that a man of that age is more prone to health scares. As it stands, Biden is the oldest person ever to win the US presidency.”
In the end, the 2024 presidential race isn’t all that open right now but could becomes so based on what factors come into play in years to come. One example would be Trump surviving his Senate trial and trying to win the Republican nomination again. Another big factor will be Biden’s health towards the end of his first term, which could pave the way for Kamala Harris to be president. It’s all a matter of what happens in the next four years.
