Constellation Furyk and Friends Odds Favor Phil Mickelson

It’s an exciting week to be a fan of golf. After all, it isn’t every day that a new tournament is added to the PGA TOUR Champions. This week marks the very first edition of the Constellation Furyk and Friends — a tournament created by Jim & Tabitha Furyk. The charity event will take place at the Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida from Friday, October 8 to Sunday, October 10.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to charities in Northeast Florida.

BetOnline has released odds on the event and is favoring Phil Mickelson (+35o) to win the Constellation Furyk and Friends. This will be his fourth career PGA TOUR Champions event after seeing a lot of success in the previous three. Mickelson won both the Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National and Dominion Energy Charity Classic in 2020, scoring 68 or better in each round.

Another thing that Mickelson has going for him is that he’s still competing against PGA TOUR talent despite his age. While he didn’t have the greatest 2021 season, “Lefty” did turn back the clock to win the PGA Championship for the first time since 2005. Winning that tournament alone sets him apart from most of this week’s field. He just placed T-36th at the Fortinet Championship about three weeks ago, so it’ll be interesting to see how he bounces back in Jacksonville.

Here’s a look at how the rest of BetOnline’s odds are shaping up ahead of this week’s event.

Stricker Enters as Second Favorite

At +700 odds, Steve Stricker has the second-best odds to win the inaugural Constellation Furyk and Friends. The two-time PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year is usually one of the favorites to win any PGA TOUR Champions event that he competes in. He played in 12 tournaments for players 50 and above last season, placing Top 10 in all but two events — with half of those being Top-5 placements.

Like Mickelson, Stricker also competed against PGA TOUR talent last year despite his age. The 54-year-old didn’t have the same success that this week’s favorite had, however, he did place T-4th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February 2021. Nevertheless, Stricker hasn’t competed in a PGA TOUR event since July, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does against older completion again after placing 6th at the Sanford International a few weeks back.

Jim Furyk Constellation Furyk and Friends

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Jim Furyk — co-creator of Constellation Furyk and Friends — has the third-best odds (+850) to win his own creation. The West Chester, Pennsylvania native has been a constant throughout the PGA TOUR Champions this year, placing Top 10 or better in 13 of the 21 events that he’s competed in. Not only that but he’s also won three tournaments, with the most recent being the U.S. Senior Open Championship in July.

While he’s placed T-16th or better in each of the five PGA TOUR Champions events since then, it’ll be interesting to see if he can win his own creation. He’ll certainly have some tough competition in Mickelson, Stricker and a bunch of other golfers, however, there’s the possibility that Furyk will be extra motivated knowing that this is his tournament. Odds don’t count for everything, so only time will tell if Furyk will have enough motivation to be the very first Constellation Furyk and Friends victor.
