The UEFA Champions League is one of the most prestigious tournaments in all of soccer. Europe’s top clubs compete with each other over a span of several months to see who’ll be crowned the event’s winner.
Last year’s Champions League was won 1-0 by Bayern Munich over Paris St-Germain. In 2021, two English clubs will duke it out for the championship.
Manchester City advanced to the final for the first time by defeating Paris St-Germain 4-1 on aggregate. Man City has been having a great season in the English Premier League and they’ve managed to bring that success to the 2021 Champions League as well. They’ve looked dominant up to this point and won’t look to stop with one game left to go.
Chelsea will meet Man City in the final after scoring a 3-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid. Like their opponents, Chelsea has also been having a good season in the EPL and have made it this fair even after having +450 odds to win it all back in March.
The two clubs will collide on May 29, 2021 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
With the Champions League final set in stone, Bovada has released odds on the big match. However, it shouldn’t be surprising that they’re favoring Man City at -110 odds. Things could change between now and the end of May, but the odds might not shift in Chelsea’s favor. After all, Man City has been favored to win the entire tournament for at least the last several months.
UEFA Champions League Final Odds: Manchester City vs. Chelsea
Odds via Bovada as of Thursday, May 6
- Money line: Man City (-110) vs. Chelsea (+325) or DRAW (+245)
- Point spread: Man City -0.5 (-115) vs. Chelsea +0.5 (-105)
- Total: 2.5 — Over (+115), Under (-140)
Manchester City Favored to Win
As mentioned before, it’s not much of a surprise that Manchester City is projected to win the 2021 UEFA Champions League. It all started with a dominant showing in the group stage where they went 5-1-0 (Win-Draw-Loss). Man City has also scored 25 goals throughout the tournament while only surrendering 4 for a +21 differential. To put that in a better perspective, that means that they’re allowing fewer than half a goal per game.
What makes Man City’s offense harder to stop is the fact that it’s just no one player scoring for them. Riyad Mahrez and Ferran Torres are the club’s top goal-scorers with 4 goals apiece, whereas other teams have players with double that amount. It’s this type of depth that should put Man City at an advantage over Chelsea in the Champions League final.
Can Chelsea Upset Manchester City?
Despite the fact that Chelsea will enter the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League final as the underdog club doesn’t mean that all hope is gone. In fact, they recently defeated Man City 1-0 in the semi-finals of this year’s FA Cup back on April 17. It wasn’t a dominant win by any means, but it showed that Chelsea is capable of holding their own against the tournament favorites.
The two English soccer powerhouses are scheduled to clash again, this time in EPL action, on Saturday, May 8. While the stakes will be lower in this meeting, it’ll give Chelsea another opportunity to prove that Manchester City might not be the favorites that everyone thinks they are ahead of the Champions League final.
