The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has dominated Nevada's poker market for almost a decade. But, this might end soon once BetMGM goes live and becomes the second online poker room in the state. The gaming company has shown several signs of launching online poker in Nevada (NV) soon.
Last summer, Entain, BetMGM's joint owner and partypoker's parent company, got a three-year online poker license extension in Nevada, also known as the Silver State. This made poker enthusiasts optimistic that BetMGM would use the license to go live and connect its New Jersey player pool to the new Nevada platform.
Even so, a recent development that took place indicates that the gaming company is progressing in bringing in introducing a new online poker product in NV. BetMGM published a job post for a Senior Manager position for Poker Marketing in Las Vegas, Nevada. It indicated that candidates need to understand and have hands-on experience in online poker.
The job post didn't have other information. Pokerfuse failed to confirm details about the operator's plans to launch another poker product. Even so, it is likely to start its poker operations in Nevada before the 2022 WSOP starts.
It will permit players traveling to the state to take part in the in-person World Series of Poker live series that starts on May 31 on the Las Vegas Strip. They can decide to compete in any of the two online poker rooms.
Reports state that BetMGM is already providing sports betting in the Silver State. So, players with active gambling accounts will have a thrilling connected account experience, as they will be able to play online poker once the site goes live.
Will BetMGM's Gaming Site in Nevada Share Liquidity With the One in New Jersey?
Borgata New Jersey, partypoker New Jersey, and BetMGM New Jersey share one player pool in the state. Yet, it is uncertain whether BetMGM Poker Nevada shall share liquidity with its New Jersey (NJ) network. The law doesn't prevent the gaming operator from setting up a shared player pool.
The WSOP has a three-state poker network that it shares with 888poker. It connects WSOP NJ players with those on WSOP Nevada.
888poker uses the same network in three 'racinos' in Delaware and New Jersey. Thus, the 888poker/WSOP network has one player pool in Delaware, Nevada, and New Jersey. The three states form the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).
Many unknowns about online poker and the Wire Act's applicability have hindered MSIGA's expansion to Pennsylvania and Michigan. It is difficult for BetMGM to venture into Nevada's online poker market without sharing liquidity. This will help it compete with the WSOP.
Online Poker in the Country and Nevada Gets a Major Boost
Nevada players will be able to choose another poker platform if the state approves another multi-state online poker room. Fertitta Interactive established Ultimate Poker Nevada on April 30, 2013.
WSOP Nevada followed it shortly, and Real Gaming launched as the third online poker room in 2014. Surprisingly, WSOP Nevada is the only remaining functioning online poker room in the Silver State.
