Live poker providers who want to continue to offer gaming must now go online. The coronavirus outbreak has resulted in the need for social distancing and with casinos and cardrooms closed, players are left with only an online option. For many land-based event operators, they are choosing partypoker for their iPoker needs. From April to June, the online poker site will have offered up almost $50 million in prize money spread across various events.
Start to Finish
In April, partypoker hosted the WPTDeepStacks in France and Spain. This resulted in more than $20 million in prize money paid out during tournament events. The Irish Poker Open also took place last month, generating over $5 million in prize money.
On top of that, partypoker hosted the Poker Masters Online due to their partnership with Poker Central. The event usually takes place in Las Vegas, but of course, casinos are now closed due to social distancing requirements. For that series, around $16.5 million was guaranteed but so many players took part, the prize money jumped to $35.5 million.
Because the Poker Masters was so successful online, Poker Central decided to move the Super High Roller Bowl online as well. It will take place at partypoker and run from May 23rd to June 1st. The tournament is usually just one event but since they are going online, it will take place as part of a series with $20 million in prize money up for grabs.
More to Look Forward To
Along with the events that have finished up as well as events that are starting now, partypoker will also be hosting additional events at the event of May into June. From May 24th to the 31st, the EAPT Online will take place. It will offer a smaller $45,000 in prize money.
From June 7th to the 16th, the DTD500 Online will take place offering up £1 million in prize money. From June 21st to the 30th, the MILLIONS Vegas Online will run, featuring a whopping $5 million in prize money.
Right now, partypoker is hosting the WPT Online Series. The series kicked off on May 3rd and will run through the 20th. An amazing $35.5 million in prize money is on offer and there will be WPT events as well as non-WPT action.
The most popular event of the schedule will most likely be the WPT Online Championship. It will offer $5 million in prize money and starts on May 10th. Also on the schedule, players will find WPT500 and WPTDeepStacks.
As the world tries to adjust during the coronavirus, the live poker circuit has done their best to offer poker gaming in a new way that can be reached by most everyone. This may be the new norm for quite some time as travel restrictions are in place as well as casinos being closed or capacity of a lower number required.
