The World Series of Poker 2020 will run from May 26th through July 15th, offering players plenty of action with several events announced already. The WSOP has provided info on 15 events as well as deciding to bring new options to the felt. Players will be able to compete in a new online event and a leaderboard challenge.
The Main Event
The most anticipated event of the WSOP is of course, the Main Event. Pros and amateurs alike hope to be the last one standing to gain the acclaim of being the Main Event champion. This year, the $10,000 tournament will begin on July 1st and offer three starting flights. Players who survive Day 1a or 1b will return on July 4th for Day 2ab. Players who make it through Day 1c will come back on Day 2c which will be on July 5th.
The fields will then come together on July 6th and the tournament should reach the final table by July 10th. On July 11th, the final table will be played and filmed. ESPN and ESPN2 will be televising the action from July 12th to the 14th.
The WSOP has also announced that the BIG 50 No Limit Hold’em tournament will be back in action for 2020. The event will take place during the opening weekend and will include four starting flights, beginning on May 28th.
The event has a buy-in of $500. Players are given 50,000 in starting chips and will play at 50 minute levels.
New WSOP Options
As mentioned, the World Series of Poker is preparing to offer something new during the 2020 edition. For online players, the series will be offering a $10,000 tournament. This will be the largest online event every hosted by the WSOP.
Online events joined the WSOP schedule in 2015 and every year have grown to be bigger and better. In 2019, the WSOP offered the most online events ever, with nine bracelets on offer. The largest online event last year was the $3,200 High Roller, so the new $10,000 event is definitely a big chance.
The WSOP will also be offering a special leaderboard competition. Apparently, the leaderboard will be similar to the WSOP Player of the Year race. Players will be able to earn prizes based on the points they earn while competing in Championship level events.
The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will of course play host again this year, with players descending upon the casino soon to take part in the all the action. Also, on the schedule is a Crazy Eights event, Colossus and Millionaire Maker, all favorites among regulars of the WSOP.
WSOP Vice President Jack Effel commented on the schedule when it was first released a few weeks ago stating that while the schedule is still beign worked on, key events have been cemented that anchor it all. The WSOP will continue to work on the rest of the schedule and provide details as the events are planned out.
