WSOP Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee Main Event Win Goes to Erik Gorman

The World Series of Poker Circuit has been spending a little time in North Carolina, with the Harrah’s Cherokee playing host to several poker events. The schedule included the Main Event of course, perhaps the most anticipated event of the stop. With a field of 1,000 entries, it was Erik Gorman who came out on top, earning his first gold ring and $260,480 for his efforts.

The Maryland resident is no stranger to the poker table, having competed in big events before. He has come close on other occasions to winning a gold ring, but always fell short. But not this time! He was able to defeat Hannah Guthrie of Alabama in heads up play to claim the first-place prize.

Tournament Details

When the final day began, 15 players would return to the felt. Gorman would start last in chips only to eventually win the event. On the first few hands, Gorman was able to build on his chip stack which help to propel him forward.

From that point on, Gorman would stay at the top by way of chip count. Eventually, he would face Hannah Guthrie in heads up play, being at a three to one chip advantage. Guthrie had actually started the day as the chip leader and dominated the final table.

During heads-up, there was a point where the round turned in Gorman’s favor. The hand saw both players all-in with Guthrie with the chip lead. She had a flush on a paired board but Gorman would earn four 7s to seal the hand and build his stack.

He was then the chip leader and the next hand would give him the win. Gorman opened and Guthrie was all-in with ace-three suited. Gorman called and held Ace-Queen and was able to flop a pair of quens that eventually gave him the win.

Of the win, Gorman stated he was happy and excited. Not only did he win his first gold WSOPC ring, but he also more than doubled his career earnings during his career, pushing his total to over the $500,000 mark. He was asked what he would do with the money and stated that the reality of the win had to come first. For the finish, he also won a 2020 GCC Seat.
