BetOnline Poker´s Shark Week event gives players two weeks of qualifying opportunities ahead of a $10,000 guaranteed online poker tournament.
BetOnline Poker is certainly aiming to be the champion of small stakes poker players who appreciate playing for valuable prizes. Hot on the heels of announcing its Dollar Insanity event in which players can win a share of $10,000 for free, the site has come up with an equally outrageous promotion which not only gives players the chance to qualify for a $10,000 tournament for free, but rewards those who do with a starting stack three times the size of players who buy-in directly.
Shark Week is a little more convoluted than the Dollar Insanity event that takes place on July 21st. For a start, it doesn´t take place over one week, but two; and, whereas players can qualify directly into the Dollar Insanity tournament for free, in this promotion there is an extra step to negotiate. That´s not to say this promotion is not as good as the Dollar Insanity event because if you succeed in the qualifying route, you will have a massive advantage in the Final tournament.
How the Shark Week Event Works
From July 21st until the morning of August 4th, BetOnline Poker will be hosting mobile-exclusive freeroll tournaments in which the top ten players will each win a seat in a Shark Week qualifier. The Shark Week qualifiers (which are also accessible from the BetOnline Poker PC client) run ten times a day and can be bought into directly for $1.10. The top ten players in each Shark Week qualifier will be rewarded with an entry in the Shark Week Final at 4:00pm ET on Sunday August 4th.
The Shark Week Final has a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000 and can be bought into directly for $22.00. However, players who buy-in directly will find themselves at a massive disadvantage because players who have won their seats in a satellite will have three times the usual starting stack. Personally, I can´t see anybody buying in directly and imagine every player will start the Shark Week Final with an identical starting stack which will be the equivalent of a couple of hundred Big Blinds.
The Latest in a Series of Attractive Promotions
BetOnline Poker´s Shark Week event is not likely to appeal to high rollers; but, for small stakes players, the promotion represents the latest event in a series of attractive promotions. In recent months we´ve had the March Madness Sit & Go promotion, the low buy-in Indy 500 Turbo Series, and a $120,000 guaranteed Micro Series with a dime qualifier to the Main Event.
