The 2024 Summer Poker Series kicked off in early June, and all of the action is taking place at Resorts World Las Vegas. While most of the live poker updates have been coming for the World Series of Poker, there has been some great action here as well.
12 events have already been completed, and there have been some exciting results that have occurred up to this point. There will ultimately be 82 events as a part of this festival, and the total prize money will eclipse $900,000.
While this prize money is much less than what gets handed out at the WSOP, there will be some great opportunities for players to cash in. Some big names are bouncing back and forth between Resorts World and the WSOP, and that adds to the drama.
Here is a look at a few of the tournaments that have already been completed.
Egolf Wins First Event
There were more than 150 players that signed up to compete in the first event of the series, and the buy-in for that tournament was $200. It was a No-Limit Hold’Em style tournament, and the original guarantee was set at $10,000.
The top 18 players in this event were paid out, with the top prize being $4,914, and it was won by Michael Egolf. That bumps the career total for Egolf to right around $30,000, and it’s clear that he is not yet ready to enter the biggest events.
Jack Sloan took home the second prize at this event, and his win was nearly identical to what Egolf was paid out.
Pie Wins For First Time
Each of the first three events followed the same format, but there was a slight change in Event $4. The total guarantee for that event was just $5,000, but that pot was nearly doubled after 68 entries signed up to compete.
Getting to the final table guaranteed a cash out in this field, but none of those players won a large amount of money. The winner of this event got more than prize money though, as that champion also won his first ever live event.
Killian Pie won $3,720 by taking home the title in this event, and it is the first time that he has won a tournament of any kind.
Samples Adds to Career Winnings
Event Number 5 did not have a repeat winner, but it was someone that has had a terrific career playing live poker. Candyce Samples took down the $200 No-Limit Hold’Em event, and she had to navigate a field of 160 players to get that done.
While this was only the second event title for Samples, she is a player that has continued to show up at final tables throughout her career. She is now over $106,000 through 20 career cashes, but this most recent win could encourage her to enter more contests.
Jason Mirza was the runner-up in this event, and he is a player that has enjoyed a ton of success throughout his career.
