The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation runs a gaming unit called Wondr Nation. It recently declared that it would offer a huge donation to help the University of Connecticut (UConn) research on responsible gaming.
The online gaming unit pledged $250,000 to the university’s School of Medicine to conduct its research. The Foxwoods Resort Casino earns the Mashantucket most of its revenue. It runs in Connecticut.
Even so, the Native tribe founded its gaming unit in May 2022 after Connecticut agreed to let the two local indigenous tribes venture into iGaming. It expanded the Mohegan and Mashantucket Tribes’ Class III gaming deals to let Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods offer iGaming, online and retail sports gambling.
DraftKings and Foxwoods collaborated to help the Mashantucket Nation monitors in-person and online sports gambling activities. Wondr Nation is simply defined as an iGaming entertainment firm that teams up with successful gaming platforms to offer players better gaming experiences using sophisticated technologies.
The gaming unit runs FoxwoodsONLINE, Foxwoods’ social casino. Still, it is reported to partner with DraftKings on the Foxwoods bookie and online gaming product in the state.
The two gaming firms will soon launch Foxwoods El San Juan Casino in Puerto Rico. However, the gaming property will also accept sports bets.
What Is No-Problem Play?
Foxwoods is among the country’s leading tribal gaming venues. Therefore, the Mashantucket Nation states that advocating for responsible play is one of its key public duties. It has supported several responsible betting programs, some of which Wondr Nation has joined.
The gaming unit revealed in April 2023 that it will start donating $300,000 annually to the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) to help it control problem betting by increasing awareness, education, and prevention.
Wondr Nation decided to increase its responsible gaming financial aid by offering the School of Medicine a $250,000 grant to discover various responsible betting practices. It aims at reducing problem gaming behavior and increasing nonproblem betting.
The Mashantucket released a statement indicating that the two-year grant it gave the university established a Wonder Nation Responsible and Sustainable Gaming Fund. The gaming unit’s CEO and President, Anika Howard stated that the study will concentrate on promoting community development and player safety.
Howard added that they value responsible gaming and are glad to partner with UConn’s researchers to increase the communities’ investment, player safety and finance essential research. Foxwoods is still smoke-free after the COVID-19 global pandemic. Some responsible gambling experts are backing its move claiming that asking smokers to leave casino floors while smoking can reduce high problem gambling rates.
Will There Be New Gaming Protocols?
Carla Rash, a UCoon School of Medicine Associate Professor, stated that the rapid growth of some state’s online casino and online sports gambling industries has increased the need for additional responsible gaming studies.
Rash is pleased to partner with Wondr Nation to research how increased gaming is affecting local communities.
