The High Stakes Poker Season 9 ended last Monday night on PokerGO with a fierce battle between Stanley Tang, the DoorDash food delivery application's founder, and Tom Dwan.
The season's Episode 14 didn't have hands that resembled the wild one seen last week as Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, and Daniel Negreanu battled.
Negreanu folded a full house to Antonius' check-raise and thrilled poker fans from all over the world. The three poker pros played this week in the PokerGO season finale as Doyle Brunson, Jason Koon, Jonathan Gibbs, Dwan, and Tang joined them in a $500/$1,000 no-limit hold'em.
Tang Faces an Online Poker Pro
Dwan and Tang offered most of the action in the season finale. Yet, the latter placed big river bets in the two cashes. Koon made a $2,500 raise in an early position using {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} as Tang used {10-Spades}{2-Spades} to call.
This took place before Dwan made a three-bet from a small blind using {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} to $14,000. Tang was the only player that called at that moment.
The flop turned into {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, and durrrr wagered $22,000 as his rival called. Both players saw {j-Diamonds} on the turn, and Dwan checked after he got a flush. Tang placed a $40,000 wager that Dwan called, and it {7-Hearts} appeared on the river.
Dwan checked again and paced a $116,000 bet. The former Full Tilt Poker expert got in a dilemma and pondered the best available option for some time. He decided to call and ship a $389,000 pot. But he eventually lost the battle.
The two poker players later battled when Tang tried to reclaim his chips. He made a $2,200 straddle. Held {10-Spades}{7-Spades} and called Dwan's $5,000 raise from the button using {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.
Koon used {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs} to make the same move from a small blind. The flop turned {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{q-Spades} as durrrr wagered $10,000 having top pair and the gutter ball as action checked him.
Koon got out of the way as Tang made a $30,000 check raise. But it didn't convince Koon to fold, and the turn was {2-Clubs}.
Still, it didn't prevent Tang from placing a $40,000 wager. It was insufficient to fold, and both players saw {9-Spades} on the river, thus offering a flush.
Tang made a straight and placed a polarizing $125,000 bet that prompted Dwan to make a tough decision. Dwan decided to call again but was unlucky.
Dwan Surprises When Makes a Strange River Wager Against Negreanu
Dwan battled other talented players besides Tang in the High Stakes Poker season's last episode as he played an interesting pot against Negreanu. He used {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} to open from an early position to $3,000 as Negreanu held {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.
He made a $15,000 three bet from a button. The initial raiser called, and both players made an odd check to the river.
The pot had $35,000 while the board read {5-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Dwan wagered $42,000 with a top kicker and top pair. Negreanu hesitated a bit and later opted to call.
Unfortunately, he picked the wrong pocket pair and ended High Stakes Poker Season 9. Each of its episodes is available on PokerGO.
