UFC 270 is the next pay-per-view event on the mixed martial arts promotion’s calendar. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, CA and features a card filled with several intriguing bouts.
While a lot of people are looking forward to the UFC Heavyweight Championship unification bout between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, that isn’t the only fight for a championship on the card.
Brandon Moreno will defend his UFC Flyweight Championship against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 270, marking the third fight in their trilogy.
While fans are trying to predict who’ll win this flyweight bout, BetOnline’s odds for the fight shed some light on which direction things could go in.

Moreno Favored to Retain
At -182 odds, Moreno is favored to walk out of UFC 270 with his flyweight championship, according to BetOnline.
Moreno has been on a roll over his last seven fights, going 5-0-2 over that stretch. Both of his last two bouts have involved Figueiredo and the UFC Flyweight Championship. The two first met at UFC 256 when the latter was still the titleholder, however, that meeting ended in a draw after the then-champion lost a point due to groin strikes.
The two met again at UFC 263 in June 2021 and, this time, Moreno made sure that the championship didn’t elude him. The 28-year-old Tijuana, Mexico native forced Figueiredo to submit to a rear-naked choke in Round 3, earning him the first gold of his UFC career.
Now, Moreno is slated to make his first-ever UFC Flyweight Championship defense at UFC 270. Even though he’s favored to win by decision at +255 odds, the champion is 5-5 in his 10 fights that have gone the distance.
Nevertheless, Moreno was absolutely dominant the last time the fighters met. He beat Figueiredo in strikes, 47-24, and dominated the control time to the tune of 4:49 to 1:30. If Moreno can pull off a similar performance, he’ll be in good shape to retain his championships. Considering his momentum as of late, it’s hard to doubt him heading into UFC 270.
Figueiredo Looking for Revenge at UFC 270
On the other hand, Figueiredo won’t let the odds dictate how his fight will go at UFC 270. After all, the veteran fighter is 34 years old and there’s no guarantee as to how many championship opportunities remain in his career. That’s why he needs to make Saturday night’s co-main event count.
One thing that didn’t work out for Figueiredo last time is that he tried to use his grappling prowess to defeat Moreno. Obviously, that didn’t work out, which has led to him making several changes in his life to ensure a different result.

At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that Figueiredo was on a roll before his trilogy with Moreno began. He was on a five-fight win streak before their first collision and likely would’ve won that bout had he not been deducted points.
According to BetOnline, Figueiredo likeliest method of victory is to win by decision (+375) as well. Aside from his first fight against Moreno, he hasn’t had a contest go the distance since July 2019, so it’ll be interesting to see if that streak comes to an end. Regardless, even if he’s getting up there in age, it’s tough to rule out the former champion despite the odds being stacked against him.
