It’s an exciting week to be a golf fan because the 2021 DP World Tour Championship is slated to go down in a few days. The final event of the 2021 PGA European Tour will once again be held at the Earth Course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates from Thursday, November 18 to Sunday, November 21.
There are a lot of talented golfers who’ll be competing in Dubai this week, however, BetOnline is currently favoring Rory McIlroy to win it all at +550 odds.
The 2021 PGA TOUR was a relatively quiet one for McIlroy. While he finished inside of the Top 25 in 14 of his 21 outings, he only made the Top 3 once and that came when he won the Wells Fargo Championship in May. Nevertheless, McIlroy started his 2022 season with a bang, winning the CJ Cup on October 17 after shooting 25-under-par.
When it comes to the DP World Tour Championship, McIlroy is no stranger to the tournament. He’s competed in it 10 times in it past, being one of four men to have won the championship twice — with his most recent time being in 2015. In total, McIlroy has finished inside of the Top 10 in 80% of his outings in Dubai, which further illustrates why he’s the favorite this week. Considering he placed fourth in his last outing back in 2019, there’s no reason why he can’t become the first three-time DP World Champion.

Morikawa Coming in Second
This week will mark Collin Morikawa’s second time competing at the DP World Tour Championship. He made his debut in Dubai last year, shooting 7-under-par and finishing in a tie for 10th place. Now, BetOnline is listing him as having the second-best odds to win at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in just a few days.
Like McIlroy, Morikawa has been having a successful 2022 PGA TOUR — especially compared to last year. He began the 2021 season by failing to make the cut in either of his first two events. Meanwhile, he’s begun the new tour by helping Team USA win the Ryder Cup, placing second at the CJ Cup and finishing T-7th at the ZOZO Championship towards the end of October. He hasn’t competed in any events since then, however, it’d be tough to find many golfers in the field with more momentum than Morikawa.
Ancer, Fitzpatrick DP World Tour Championship Odds
BetOnline lists both Abraham Ancer and Matthew Fitzpatrick as having the third-best DP World Tour Championship odds, setting the duo at +1600.
When it comes to Ancer, he’ll be one of the many golfers making their Dubai debut this week. The 30-year-old Mexican has had mixed results to start the 2022 PGA season. While missed the cut at the Shriners Children’s Open, he placed T-14th and T-7th in his subsequent two events. If the trend continues in Dubai, Ancer could find himself close to winning the whole tournament.
Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick joins McIlroy as another two-time DP World Championship winner who’ll be competing this week. He first won the event in 2012 before winning it for a second time last year, meaning it may be a surprise to see him sitting all the way at +1600. Even taking away his two wins, Fitzpatrick has placed 12th or better in three of his other four outings.
Nevertheless, his odds are likely what they are because of how he’s begun the 2022 PGA TOUR. Fitzpatrick first placed T-30th at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship before a disappointing T-64th finish at the World Wide Technology Championship just over a week ago. Perhaps his previous DP World Championship performances will motivate him to get back on track this week.
