The mixed martial arts world is in for an exciting week because UFC 268 is scheduled to go down on Saturday, November 6. The event will be taking place in New York City at none other than the most famous arena in the world, Madison Square Garden.
It’s an absolutely loaded card with something for everyone, however, a majority of fans are looking forward to the main event fight. UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman will defend his championship for the second time against Colby Covington.

Usman Favored to Retain Championship
It’s tough to find a UFC fighter who’s been more dominant than Usman as of late, hence why he’s favored at -320 to retain his welterweight championship. The 34-year-old Nigerian has not lost a fight since May 2013, which goes to show just how good he’s been. His 14 consecutive victories are a UFC welterweight division record and he’ll look at to add to his storied career by trying to earn his fifth title defense.
As mentioned before, UFC 268 will be the second time that Usman defends the UFC Welterweight Championship against Covington. The two met back in December 2019 at UFC 235, which ended with Usman winning via TKO in the fifth round.
It just seems hard to imagine Usman losing his championship to Covington at UFC 268. The challenger has fought just once since the UFC 236 loss, leaving many to wonder exactly why he deserves this opportunity. Meanwhile, Usman has been mowing through the division, defeating Jorge Masvidal twice (once by decision, once by KO) and also knocking out Gilbert Burns.
The main event should be entertaining, however, it just doesn’t look like Usman is in danger of losing the title — hence why the odds heavily favor him. Perhaps Covington will pull out some surprises or maybe Usman will continue his dominance. Only time will tell.
Can Covington Pull Off the UFC 268 Upset?
While Covington is the +270 underdog, that isn’t to say that he can’t shock a lot of people this Saturday. After all, he has a 16-2-0 record for a reason and even though he may not be the ideal challenger, his resume backs it up a bit.
Covington was a former interim UFC Welterweight Champion back in 2018 when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos for the honor. Eventually, the title was stripped from him due to injury and he’s been fighting to get the gold back ever since. His loss to Usman was the only other time he’s challenged for the welterweight championship, so it’s a “now or never” moment for Covington at UFC 268.
Covington learned in their last meeting that he simply couldn’t take down Usman. The defending champion has a career 100% takedown defense rating, which means the fight will likely come down to strikes.
While Covington can certainly hold his own, it isn’t hard to tell that Usman is the better striker, whether that comes down to his speed or strength. Usman also has 54% strike accuracy while Covington is sitting at 38%. Even if the fight goes the distance again, it’s going to take a lot for the challenger to pull off the upset.
