There’s a lot of buzz going around the golf world because the Hero World Challenge field was announced this week. The Tiger Woods-hosted tournament will take place at the Albany Golf Course in Albany, New Providence, The Bahamas from November 29 to December 5. Last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s nice to continue to get back to normalcy in 2021.
While the tournament is a part of the 2022 PGA TOUR, there will not be any FedEx Cup points on the line.
With 18 of the world’s best golfers taking part in the Hero World Challenge, it may be difficult to figure out who might win. That’s why BetOnline has released odds on the event, which currently favor Rory McIlroy at +800.
McIlroy has yet to compete in the tournament since it moved to the Albany Golf Course. However, he did compete when it was held at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, placing 4th in 2010 and 11th in 2014.
While both of those instances happened years ago, something that occurred more recently was McIlroy winning the CJ Cup almost two weeks ago. He finished by going 25-under-par, showing he doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon. He’s also placed inside of the Top 20 eight times in his last 11 outings, which also includes winning the Wells Fargo Championship back in May.
Even though there are a lot of good golfers in the Hero World Challenge field, it’s hard not to like the momentum that McIlroy is bringing to the table.

Three-Way Tie For Second-Best Odds
As it stands, there’s a three-way tie for the second-best Hero World Challenge odds (+1000) between Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau.
When it comes to Thomas, he does have experience in The Bahamas. He’s competed in each of the last three iterations of the tournament, placing 11th, 12th and 5th from 2018 to 2020, respectively. He was also a part of the 2021 Ryder Cup-winning team, however, he hasn’t won a solo event since March.
Meanwhile, this will be Morikawa’s Hero World Challenge debut. Some may think that he’s at a disadvantage and that might be true, but he’s been playing well as of late. The 2021 Open Championship winner also helped win the Ryder Cup, placed 2nd at the CJ Cup and just finished T-7th at last weekend’s ZOZO Championship.
Lastly, DeChambeau competed in the last two editions of the event, placing 12th and 15th. He hasn’t competed at all yet on the 2022 PGA TOUR, so the jury is still out on how he looks. However, he did finish off the 2021 season strong with a trio of Top-10 finishes in his last four outings. There’s still a month or so until the Hero World Challenge kicks off, so there’s plenty of time to get back into form.
