Now that the Ryder Cup is all wrapped up, golf fans are turning their attention to the PGA’s next event on the schedule: the 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship. The tournament will kick off on Thursday, September 30 and conclude on Sunday, October 3 and will be played at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi. There are several talented golfers to play at the event, but it’s Sam Burns who’s BetOnline’s +1400 favorite to win it all.
Burns has had a mixed bag of results when competing at the Sanderson Farms Championship in the past. He’s played the Country Club of Jackson four times before, finishing as follows: 43rd, 3rd, 45th, CUT. On one hand, his one third-place finish could have just been a fluke when you compare it to the other three outings. On the other hand, it could also mean that he’s due for a bounce-back performance this week.
Overall, Burns quietly had an impressive showing throughout 2021. He’s competed in 26 events so far this year, finishing Top 25 in exactly half of them. He won the Valspar Championship back in May, so he’s proven that he can get the job done when it counts. There were also some stretches where he didn’t play his best golf, however, he’s placed Top 10 in two of his last four tournaments and finished T-2nd at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational just last month. Without a lot of the sport’s top players in Jackson this week, Burns has a decent shot at victory.

Will Zalatoris Has Next Best Odds
At +1600 odds, Will Zalatoris has the second-best odds to win this year’s Sanderson Farms Championship. The 25-year-old remained competitive throughout the 2021 PGA TOUR but never could do just enough to win one of the tournaments. His best finish was when he placed second at the Masters Tournament, however, that was back in April. Fortunately, he looked solid in his 2022 season debut just over a week ago, placing T-11th in the Fortinet Championship. Now, Zalatoris is looking to take his game to the next level.
He doesn’t have a lot of Sanderson Farms Championship experience to go off of considering how he’s only competed at the Country Club of Jackson just once in his short career. He ended up missing the after shooting a 73 and 71 in the first two rounds, respectively. Still, a lot has changed in the months that have passed and Zalatoris doesn’t have to deal with a majority of golf’s top names. If there was ever a time for him to have his breakout performance, it’d be this week in Jackson.
Can Sergio Garcia Win the Sanderson Farms Championship Again?
Unlike Zalatoris, Sergio Garcia (+1800) does have experience at this annual tournament. He actually won the Sanderson Farms Championship last year, finishing ahead of the runner-up Peter Malnati by a single stroke. Sometimes all you need is some experience to give you an advantage, which is why Garcia will attempt to use his as he is tied for the third-best odds to win this week.
The 2021 PGA TOUR was a mixed bag for Garcia. The Sanderson Farms Championship was just the third event that he competed in and also the last time he saw a Top 3 finish. While he had 11 Top 25 performances out of the 24 tournaments he played in, he also failed to make the cut nine times. The fact is that he likely isn’t in his prime anymore at 41 years old and can’t compete as consistently as before.
With that being said, all it takes is one good showing to turn things around. If Garcia can channel his experience to give him the edge over the rest of the field, he could become the first golfer since Fred Funk to win the Sanderson Farms Championship multiple times.
