As more people take the COVID-19 vaccination and COVID-19 restrictions ease, casinos in the state of Connecticut need to find more employees. The summer is drawing near, and this is a busy time for the gaming venues. It is essential that the properties have enough employees to handle the influx of visitors. The Foxwoods Resort and Mohegan Sun are competitors in general, but now they must compete for employees as the need for more workers increases.
Hiring Now
The months of June to August are super busy for the casinos as they are handling busy crowds traveling on vacation and weekend getaways. For Foxwoods, the casino looks to hire 300 new full and part-time employees. The positions available include security needs, food and beverage, and hotel needs. For the Mohegan Sun, an exact number of employees the property plans to hire has not been provided. They do wish to hire in the same positions as Foxwoods.
Because both properties are hiring and of course they want the best of the best to work for them, there is a battle going on as the employee search takes place. Each operator is trying to do the best they can in order to pull from the worker pool.
The resorts are located 10 miles apart, so the operators must entice potential employees to come to them rather than their competitor. For Foxwoods, the property is offering a starting pay wage of $13.50 for non-tipped employees.
In the summer months, these employees will earn double pay for any hours that exceed the 40-hour mark. This is a nice incentive that should bring players in. New employees of the Mashantucket Pequot will provide new workers a bonus of $200 once they have been with the company for 90 days. Current employees who help see new employees hired will also receive the bonus.
For the Mohegan Sun, the property is increasing the bonus options. The Mohegan Tribe plans to offer new culinary workers a huge bonus of $2,000. Housekeepers will earn a bonus as well, but it is lower at $500. The bonus amounts will also be provided in payments.
The Mohegan Sun will host job fairs in June, with on-site job offers provided. Interested individuals can attend these job fairs on June 10 and 24.
Hiring Across the United States
As more and more casinos in the US are allowed to open at 100% capacity and COVID-19 restrictions ease, properties are in need of employees. Over the past year, casinos have been subject to shutdowns and reopenings, with services offered at lower than capacity levels.
Employees have been laid off or even let go due to the decreased demand and need for services. Those who were laid off either waited it out or found new employment. Many casinos are trying to rehire their former employees, but they have already found new jobs. This is making the hiring process more difficult and time-consuming.
Casinos are now scrambling to find employees before the summer season begins. Any individuals in need of employment are encouraged to visit local gambling venues as they most likely are looking for workers to hire.
