Summary: BetLucky.com is an online sportsbook shared by Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras casinos of West Virginia that has recently stopped providing services.
West Virginia was one of the first states to begin offering sports betting services. The state passed legislation quickly and regulations were provided so that casinos in the state could set up services, both on-site at gaming venues and online. Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras casinos are operated by Delaware North, both providing a physical sportsbook. The two share an online gaming site for sports betting, BetLucky.com. The site and physical locations have ceased operations, with the company releasing an official statement on the matter.
Suspension of Services
Earlier this week, it was reported that all sports betting services of Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island had been suspended. A message was provided when calling Wheeling Island that said the sports betting services at the casinos along with the app of BetLucky had ceased.
Resulted bets were to be honored and the ‘situation’ was being resolved. The operator also apologized for any inconvenience caused. In West Virginia, BetLucky is the only option offered in the state for online sports betting. Other brands are expected to launch in the near future.
At the time that the sports betting services were halted, it was unknown as to what the problem was and why operations were no longer offered.
Official Statement
Today, Delaware North issued a statement involving the app offered at BetLucky. The statement read:
We have been informed by Miomni Gaming, our sports wagering platform provider in West Virginia, that they have encountered a contract dispute with a third-party technology supplier.
This has resulted in the interruption of the Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras sports-betting operations as well as the BetLucky.com mobile app from accepting new sports wagers. We are honoring and redeeming all resulted bets and are working to determine a time frame for restoration. We apologize for this interruption in service.
So hopefully, once the contract dispute is taken care of, the sports betting services will be up and running on-site as well as online. Being the only online provider has its perks and to stay relevant and at the top, the Bet Lucky site needs to be up and running as soon as possible.
Other online brands expected to launch soon is William Hill, FanDuel and DraftKings. Each of these names are well known in the sports betting world and can easily gain the market share, especially if BetLucky is not back online and fully operational in the near future.
The state is also considering online gambling legislation, which would put even more competition in the online sector. Operators would be able to offer multiple options and other brands could easily take over as the top provider of online sports betting along with poker and casino gaming.
It is expected that Delaware North will provide more information as they can on the operation of BetLucky as well as their land-based sportsbooks. Hopefully, the issue will be cleared up quickly so players can be back in action with online wagering and on-site options.
