Intertops is running a tournament next week to celebrate Halloween, and despite it being supported by plenty of satellites, the tournament is likely to overlay.
Next Thursday (October 31st) is Halloween – a night on which families spend a fortune on fancy dress costumes so their kids can terrorize the neighborhood without being identified by facial recognition technology. It´s also a night on which Intertops Poker is running a special Halloween poker tournament with a $2,000 guaranteed prize pool.
My feeling is there is a strong likelihood the re-buy and add-on tournament will overlay. This is because it has a buy-in of $19.80; and when you consider you will likely have to spend a further $36 on a re-buy and add-on to be in with a chance of winning a top prize, that takes the total investment (>$50) to beyond a level most low stakes players will be comfortable with.
Furthermore, the early start time of 7:15 pm (ET) may be inconvenient for players on the west coast, where many are likely to have day jobs. Even though there is a late registration period of ninety minutes, a lot of players will be excluded from taking part – not counting those who will be getting their kids ready to go trick or treating or escorting them from door-to-door.
About Intertops´ Halloween Event
If you are able to play in the special Halloween tournament, it has a lovely structure. For the buy-in of $19.80, you´ll get 2,000 chips with blinds starting at 10/20, and you can re-buy a further 2,000 chips for $18 at any time during late registration. Levels increase every eight minutes; and, during Level 12 (blinds 500/1,000 – ante 100) there will be a short break to give players an opportunity to buy an add-on of 3,000 chips for a further $18.
If you are thinking of playing in this event, Intertops Poker is hosting a series of satellites from 28th October to 31st October with buy-ins of $2.20. Each satellite guarantees one a seat in the target event. Unfortunately for players who have to work during the day, all four satellites are scheduled for 4:05 pm (ET), which makes it likely they will not be supported as well as they might have been if they were scheduled for later in the evening.
Nonetheless, if you are able to win a seat in the Halloween tournament via a satellite, and then cash in the target event, the return on your investment should be seriously enhanced by an overlay. My guess is that around twenty to thirty players will enter or qualify for the tournament; and, if you assume each player will re-buy once – while only the top ten will purchase an add-on – you are looking at an overlay in excess of $600 for a $2,000 guaranteed tournament.
It´s Win Your Chip & Gold Rush Weekend Again
It´s also that time of the month when Intertops Poker hosts its Win Your Chips & Gold Rush weekend. The Win Your Chips freeroll tournament is the first leg of the promotion, and this event takes place tomorrow at 11:05 am (ET) paying out 75 Gold Chips to players who finish in the money.
