The next Million Dollar Sunday event may still be ten days away but, based on results from the current OSS Cub3d series, there will likely be a big overlay.
When the Winning Poker Network´s CEO – Phil Nagy – announced the next Million Dollar Sunday event would have a half-price buy-in of $265.00, I was more than a little surprised. Although the Million Dollar Sunday is an incredibly popular event that attracts players from all corners of the globe, the event will need 3,774 entries to break even – a thousand more than its [geolink href=”https://www.usafriendlypokersites.com/wpn-million-dollar-sunday-reaches-new-heights/”]record-breaking entry at the end of April[/geolink].
Naturally, the lower priced buy-in will bump up the entries, and – as usual – the Million Dollar Sunday event scheduled for October 15th is being supported by comprehensive satellite schedule and a good range of promotions. However, the current OSS Cub3d series is not performing as well as its two predecessors, creating the impression that finding a thousand extra entries will be no easy task.
More about the Million Dollar Sunday
The Million Dollar Sunday is the Winning Poker Network´s flagship tournament. Carrying a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000, the winner of the tournament is assured of $200,000 subject to any final table deals. The next event is one of three scheduled for October. It gets underway at 3:00pm on Sunday 13th and has five hours of late registration; by the end of which the starting stack of 10,000 chips will be worth the equivalent of ten Big Blinds.
Daily satellites feeding directly into the Million Dollar Sunday event start with buy-ins of $4.40, but be warned – these are triple turbo re-buy and add-on satellites that resemble an All-In Shootout. Gentler, deep-stack freezeout satellites with a $22.00 buy-in also run each day, and sites on the Winning Poker Network are also hosting three Mega-Satellites on 11th, 12th and 13th October guaranteeing a combined total of three hundred seats into the target event.
In terms of promotions, the Network is hosting “freebuy” sub-satellites several times a day that award seats into the Mega-Satellites. These tournaments have no entry fee – so essentially are freerolls – but players can add to their chip stacks to give themselves a better chance of qualifying by purchasing add-ons and a re-buy. There is also a two-stage Steps Sit & Go promotion, with buy-ins at the lower level costing $33.00. More last-minute promotions are expected next week.
What´s Happening in OSS Cub3d?
Last week saw the first leg of the three-tiered OSS Cub3d series – the Mini Online Super Series or “MOSS”. When the last MOSS series was played at the end of August, it was a sensational success – tournaments beating their guarantees by an average of 67%. However, this time around the situation is quite different. Fewer than half the events attracted enough entries to meet their guarantees, and the MOSS Main Event guaranteed for $450,000 overlaid for almost $25,000.
The reason for the comparatively disappointing turn out could be due to the substantially increased number of events in the schedule, but it was noticeable that the proportion of events failing to meet their guarantees increased each day as the series progressed – possibly due to tournament fatigue. This relevant to the Online Super Series section of OSS Cub3d that started last night and for which the first Million Dollar Sunday is the series feature.
All of last night´s feature events in the Online Super Series met their guarantees, but only just. There were none of the massive turn outs that typified the last Online Super Series before it was affected by the DDoS attacks that resulted in [geolink href=”https://www.usafriendlypokersites.com/wpn-cancels-boss-will-re-run-whole-oss-cub3d-series/”]the conclusion of the series being cancelled[/geolink]. Furthermore, many of the network´s other non-OSS tournaments only just scraped over their prize pool guarantees and – other than the freebuy sub-satellites – there seems to be an alarming lack of action in the satellite lobby.
A Situation Well Worth Monitoring
If you enjoy getting value from your online tournament action, the progress of the Online Super Series could be well worth monitoring. If, as happened last week, tournaments start missing their guarantees in increasing numbers, a substantial overlay in the Million Dollar Sunday event will be more than likely. It may also be worthwhile monitoring online satellites at [geolink href=”https://www.usafriendlypokersites.com/americas-cardroom/”]Americas Cardroom[/geolink] and [geolink href=”https://www.usafriendlypokersites.com/black-chip-poker/”]Black Chip Poker[/geolink] to see if those offering a guaranteed number of seats to their target events are also undersubscribed.
