Following a week of record-breaking mini buy-in action, the second leg of Americas Cardroom´s ambitious OSS Cubed series gets underway tomorrow.
Last week, Americas Cardroom hosted the first leg of its ambitious tournament series OSS Cubed. The Mini Online Super Series (MOSS) comprised of 47 tournaments and was guaranteed for $681,825. Such was the volume of interest in the mini buy-in series that most events smashed their guarantees by 50% or more, and the total paid out over the 47 tournaments exceeded $1,050,000.
The record-breaking week of action sets the scene for the ninth Online Super Series (OSS IX) that gets underway tomorrow (Wednesday). The flagship leg of the OSS Cubed series is comprised of 77 tournaments guaranteeing more than $3 million, and culminates with a Million Dollar Sunday event on Sunday 30th April at 4:00pm (ET).
What to Look Forward to in OSS IX
The schedule for OSS IX is packed with variety and opportunity, and there is no hanging around waiting for valuable tournaments as the action starts with a $125,000 guaranteed NL Hold´em event tomorrow at 3:30pm (ET). Tomorrow´s OSS IX tournaments also include a PL Omaha Hi/Lo Knockout 6-Max event and three further valuable NL Hold´em events that take the Day 1 guarantees beyond $200,000.
The big money action continues into the weekend, with a $25,000 Super Knockout event on Saturday, and a $100,000 Warm Up event on Sunday preceding a $350,000 guaranteed Sunday Special. Sunday also sees a special $1,050 buy-in Cage event scheduled – a five-hour lock-in cash game for which there are already 26 entries, implying the total amount of money on the tables could exceed $50,000.
Going into the second week of OSS IX, the variety and volume of action continues for players of all bankroll levels. Buy-ins start at just $1.10, with many of the events having guaranteed prize pools 1,000x times the buy-in. There are also hundreds of satellites feeding into the feature event of OSS IX – the Million Dollar Sunday – and watch out for details of our own Freebuy sub-satellite on Friday April 28th.
Is There Any Stopping Joey Deluca?
Alongside the OSS Cubed series, Americas Cardroom is running a leaderboard competition with points being awarded according to the number of players entering an event, the buy-in and each individual player´s finishing position. Heading the leaderboard after a week of MOSS events is Californian player Joey “KINGofMORONGO” Deluca who cashed in thirty of the forty-seven tournaments last week.
Deluca might be looking a strong favorite to win the first prize of a $4,700 package to the 2017 Punta Cana Poker Classic at the moment. However, now that the buy-ins are about to increase in the OSS Cubed series – and there will likely be more players competing in the valuable events – the competition will be heating up over the next ten days. It will be interesting to see if Deluca is able to maintain his position on top of the leaderboard after the April 30th Million Dollar Sunday.
If he does so, Deluca will then have to contend with plenty of challengers for his crown in the final leg of the OSS Cubed series – the Bigger Online Super Series (BOSS). This series, running from May 3rd to May 7th, is aimed at High Rollers and has buy-ins of between $55 and $2,100 – the BOSS Main Event being one of six tournaments with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000 or more.
