Carbon Poker has removed the option of seeing who has registered for a Sit n Go game to eliminate extreme game selection – more commonly known as “Bumhunting”.
Carbon Poker has taken action to prevent “bumhunting” in their Sit n Go games by replacing the names of players who have already registered for the game with Registered Player 1
, Registered Player 2
etc. Once a game starts, the players´ names appear as normal at the table and notes made previously about each player can be seen and added to.
While the game is still registering
, the anonymous Sit n Go lobby prevents experienced players from choosing to play in a game because they can identify certain players as weak – or not play in a game because the competition is considered to be tough. Where the changes will be most noticeable will be at the heads-up Sit n Go tables (HUSNGs).
Is Carbon Moving Towards a Recreational Model?
In a blog post announcing the introduction of anonymous Sit n Go registration, Carbon Poker hinted that this was just one step the site was taking to protect recreational players and encourage them to play more at Carbon Poker. The post alluded to Bovada Poker´s practice of hiding screen names and commented that the network had not gone to this extreme yet
.
The blog post announcing a more level playing environment
was later severely edited to remove any implication that Carbon Poker was moving towards a recreational model and also take out comments relating to bumhunters which referred to them as a nasty little breed of poker players that would rather walk on nails than play anybody whom they deem to be of equal or greater skill level
.
Unfortunately for those who were concerned about offending Carbon Poker´s bumhunters
, the full text of the original blog post was posted in the Carbon Poker Discussion thread on the 2+2 poker forum; where it was considered to be typical of the way in which the Merge Gaming Network is trying to alienate winning players.
