The Winning Poker Network (WPN) has revealed a number of plans for the future that include guaranteed seats to the WSOP and continued “The Cage” contests.
The information was provided by WPN’s CEO during last night’s running of The Cage No Limit Hold’em match that found 36 players seated at the 6-max tables after buying in for $5,100. Well, not all players there paid the full amount as the majority won their seats via satellites that were hosted prior to the event.
‘RescueGeniefromReno’ emerged from The Cage with the most cash – $24,495 – after four hours of play. Other top winners included ‘fabpoker CEO’ ($20,490), ‘Mikelester121’ ($17,767), ‘NickYunis’ ($16,690) and ‘Ficklefuddle’ ($12,695).
Twenty-one players cashed in the event, including Americas Cardroom resident pro Dusty ‘Leatherass9’ Schmidt. The ACR-sponsored Schmidt took a loss, however, as his chips totaled $3,379.
A live stream of The Cage on Twitch.tv allowed viewers to watch the action as well as shoot a number of questions at WPN CEO Phil Nagy. Those watching and listening found out that The Cage under a $5,100 buy-in will be hosted less often.
The contests had been running nearly monthly since late last year, but will now be available only prior to major tournaments. The next major WPN event will be the Winning Millions scheduled for February 22 that features a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million and $200,000 to the winner. The buy-in is $540 with satellites available at Black Chip Poker and Americas Cardroom.
Should the Winning Millions be a success, and most believe that it will, another edition of the event will be scheduled likely before mid-April. The exact date will be announced at a later time.
The Winning Millions will be the concluding event of the Online Super Series Rematch that will begin on February 13. A total of 63 events are on the docket, with over $2 million in guaranteed prizes. That’s 10 days of action with buy-ins to fit every budget.
Sometime after the conclusion of the massive Winning Millions on Feb. 22, satellites for the WSOP held in Las Vegas this summer will get underway. Dozens of seats will be up for grabs for the WSOP Main Event, the most prestigious live poker tournament held every year for over four decades.
Other topics discussed include an upcoming “Micro Beast” promo for low stakes players that will be similar to the popular “The Beast” leaderboard race, but will not be progressive. Also, Bitcoin withdrawals will be made a part of WPN sometime soon, as deposits in the virtual currency were recently added.
And finally, though the $5,100 entry The Cage will likely be run just a handful of times in 2015, the mid-stakes version with a buy-in of $525 will continue to be hosted weekly. That event takes place every Friday at 7:00 p.m.
WPN, via skins Americas Cardroom and Black Chip Poker, is a popular choice for online poker players in the U.S. And there is much for those players to look forward to in the future!
