Take a look at the latest NCAA Football News:
Tagovailoa Leaves Game With Injury
Alabama sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a knee injury in the Crimson Tide’s 39-10 victory over Missouri. Tagovailoa aggravated a knee sprain while making a run, and was forced to leave the game in the third quarter on Saturday. Former starter Jalen Hurts entered the game and finished off the victory for Alabama.
Tagovailoa began the game with a brace on his right knee, but it did not protect him from aggravating the injury late in the game. The Heisman Trophy candidate threw for 265 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions before leaving the game. Alabama coach Nick Saban announced that Tagovailoa could have gone back into the game, but the team did not need him. Tagovailoa has thrown for over 1,700 yards and 21 touchdowns this season and has yet to throw an interception. Alabama will travel to Tennessee to take on the Volunteers next weekend.
Texas Loses Ehlinger To Injury
Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was forced to leave the Longhorns victory over Baylor with an injury. The sophomore quarterback left the game in the first quarter after suffering an injury to his throwing shoulder. Texas coach Tom Herman told the media after the game that Ehlinger suffered an AC sprain. Ehlinger is expected to undergo an MRI on Sunday to evaluate the severity of the injury.
The Longhorns were able to hang on and beat Baylor, 23-17, with quarterback Steve Buechele leading the way. Texas is still undefeated in Big 12 play and will play Oklahoma State on October 27 after a bye this week.
Nebraska Falls To 0-6
The Nebraska Cornhuskers lost their sixth straight game to start the season on Saturday to fall to 0-6 for the first time in school history. Nebraska had a ten point lead with just over five minutes to play, and was looking like they were headed for their first win under Scott Frost.
Instead, Northwestern rallied to send the game into overtime, and were able to beat the Huskers with a field goal. With the loss, Nebraska has now lost ten straight games dating back to last season. Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez threw for 251 yards and a touchdown in the loss, and Devine Ozigbo ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Northwestern earned their first home victory of the season after going 0-3 at Ryan Field.
Nebraska Could See Change at QB
Nebraska head coach could insert a familiar face into the quarterback position when the Huskers try to snap their long losing streak next week. Quarterback Noah Vedral was ruled eligible by the NCAA and can suit up and play for Nebraska immediately. Vedral played for coach Frost at UCF and was the backup to star quarterback McKenzie Milton. Vedral completed 22 of 29 passes last season at UCF and also rushed for 77 yards before following Frost to Lincoln, Nebraska.
The NCAA cleared Vedral after he applied for a waiver more than six months ago, and the Huskers were desperate to add the quarterback after having only one scholarship quarterback on the roster. Quarterback Adrian Martinez was injured in the season opener, but returned in week four and has played well since his return. Vedral could play in up to four games this season while still applying for a redshirt to save a season of eligibility. Vedral is from Wahoo, Nebraska, and his dad Mike played tight end for the Huskers.
Benches Clear in Florida Win Over Vanderbilt
Tempers flared in Nashville on Saturday, in the Florida Gators 37-27 victory over Vanderbilt. Florida head coach Dan Mullen and Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason got into a heated exchange after a Florida player was ejected for targeting. With an injured Vanderbilt player laying on the field, the two head coaches began exchanging words which led to both benches spilling onto the field. The exchange happened in the first half, and two Florida linebackers were ejected on the play.
The Gators came out in the second half and took control of the game to earn a very important SEC victory over the Commodores. Both Mullen and Mason shared a long hug after the game, and neither coach wanted to talk about the skirmish in the post-game interview.
